God's classroom

an outdoor classroom where we learn and grow closer to god

At the end of the 2017-18 school year, God's Classroom was added to our campus through the efforts of the 2nd/3rd grade split class.  God's Classroom is an outdoor learning space with no mortar walls and no ceiling.  It is a wonderful place that changes daily, holds new wonders by the minute, and is a constant reminder to all of us that God is in control.

The learning space began with a donation from a former teacher upon the passing of a loved one and as a dream inside the 2nd/3rd grade classroom in the fall of 2017.  As the dream grew,  a beginning quote came in, and it's an understatement to say that it was a daunting amount of money.  The dream seemed to fizzle out as the teacher and students agreed that there was no possibility that amount of money could be raised.   Fortunately, that's not the end of the story!  As the teacher and students continued to talk about the idea, they agreed that God shouldn't -- and couldn't -- be put in a box, and they decided to let God be God!  The students wrote many letters to area businesses and friends of our school detailing a plan for an outdoor classroom.  After prayer and after giving the project completely over to God, the letters went in the mail.  Gifts of money, services, and materials began flowing in.  Each time a gift arrived, the classes gave thanks and stood in awe of what God was doing in front of their eyes.

Original plans were to have a wood chip path from the parking lot to the pond, a simple dock going out onto the pond, and a fence around the area.  Soon, we were offered a helical pier, a concrete approach from the parking lot, a large concrete pad on which students (and potentially a table) could sit, and a covered pavilion roof over the concrete pad.  The class met with fence companies and accepted a bid to fence in a far larger area than first expected!  A storage shed, picnic tables, a well and pump, a Purple Martin house, and hydro seed were also given.  There are also six memorial flowering  trees planted in the classroom.  The learning space was completed and dedicated in May 2018.  We continue to stand in awe of God's goodness and faithfulness to MCS!
